Founded by Sylvia Calnan in 2014, Simurgh Risk Management is a boutique brokerage company that specialises in providing guidance and advice on medical/health, life, critical illness, income protection and corporate travel insurance; including inpatriate and expatriate cover.
Sylvia sought to create an insurance brokerage company that was built on experience, independence, and a caring, personal ethos – the type of brokerage she would like to use if she were the client.
Simurgh calls on over 30 years of hands-on experience working in the brokerage industry
Sylvia was a foundation member of the Waikato Hospital Ethics committee, and is currently a member of Financial Advice New Zealand (formerly the PAA).
Today, Simurgh Risk Management works with a variety of global and local clients and businesses, specialising in corporate medical/health insurance, and other insurance based employee benefits.
Building a safety net for life’s unexpected turns
Sylvia’s passion for her work is drawn from her own personal experience with medical insurance. After having a child fall ill, and undergoing a long and expensive journey to get her back to health, Sylvia’s eyes were opened to the complexities in navigating the New Zealand medical system.
After this period of her life, Sylvia realised the importance of medical/health insurance. It gave her the freedom to seek second and third opinions, as well as purchase the best treatments available without having to worry about the cost.
Inspired by this experience, and passionate about helping others prepare for any sudden health changes, Sylvia put her heart into building a company that provides qualified, one-on-one insurance advice.
